MADFINGER Interview: Veronika Klimsova

MADFINGER Interview: Veronika Klimsova

Hello there! Would you please tell us who you are and what do you do at MADFINGER games?

  • Hello, guys! :) My name is Veronika, and I have been working in Madfinger for two and a half years as an Office and Release Manager. As an Office Manager, I ensure the smooth running of the office on a day-to-day basis. My duties include, for example, organizing company events such as Christmas parties, team building, ordering stationery, dealing with correspondence, suppliers, and many more. As a Release Manager, which is a totally different position, I am the one who releases the updates of our games to the world and our players

How does one get to do something like this? What were you doing before you got this job?

  • My path to get here is very interesting - I started working as an Office Manager after I graduated from the university in Zlín. I actually went to Brno for another interview, but then I met my classmate from uni, and he told me about an opening they had in Madfinger Games at that time. I was curious about the position, did some research about Madfinger, and then got excited about it because even as a girl, I had always been a gamer, and this seemed like a good place for me. So the next day, I went for an interview. :)

How would you describe your typical day at work?

  • After some time working here, I also started working as a Release Manager, which means that I am now split between two positions. Depending on the circumstances, the days can be really diverse and busy, especially if there are releases and events happening at the same time. This requires a lot of focus on many different tasks, so I am definitely not bored at all. As for most of my colleagues, the day always starts with a coffee and some chit-chat in the morning. It is awesome to see my colleagues gathering in our relax room every morning. It always makes me smile. :)
  • After that, I just check my to-do list for the day to see what I should tackle first. I also go through all the chat rooms to look if something new has popped up and then start working on my tasks. Based on the tasks, my day might be full of meetings with people from outside the studio, like external sales representatives, facility managers, and advertising representatives. But most often than not, as a Release Manager, I have to communicate with the rest of the studio, especially the Growth team, which I am also a part of. But also the programmers, the Scrum Master, the Producer etc. etc. Nowadays, I am also in charge of our company Facebook, so sharing posts or stories is something that I do every day as well.

What would you say are the biggest challenges that you have to overcome? Do you have to communicate a lot on a daily basis?

  • The biggest challenge I have to overcome is waking up in the morning. :) No, seriously, I think the biggest challenge at work is the huge amount of multitasking and switching between different positions to complete all the daily tasks. It was also quite challenging to take on the Release Manager's duties because I was totally inexperienced, but I did and still do my best. My colleagues were very helpful anytime I needed them to be, so they made the entire process much easier and smoother. Of course, I also try to help them with anything they come to me with. As you can see, I have to communicate a lot with various people and departments across the company, but I like talking with people, so this is always pleasant for me!

And what do you think is the most fun about your job?

  • The most fun part about my job is the overall communication with everybody because all the people here are more friends than just colleagues, and because we are a small studio, you get to talk with everyone all day long. I am sitting at the table right between HR and the Growth Team, and the atmosphere between us is just perfect! Sometimes we just shout jokes at each other, and it's great!. I really like the people here. They always manage to turn work into a friendly and awesome place. :)

What about games? Do you have any favorite ones?

  • Unfortunately, I do not play games anymore because I don't have time for it, but as a girl, I can't forget to mention games such as The Sims, Spyro, or Crash Bandicoot. And since I used to spend every holiday or weekend with my three cousins, we played all the more or less well-known games like Mafia and GTA, which I'd consider my top 2 games. Then there was WoW, Doom, Call of Duty, Wolfenstein, Need for Speed, Far Cry, Medal of Honor, Half-Life, Hitman and many more. I would also like to mention that my favorite Christmas present as a 10-year old kid was a Playstation 1 and then later a second controller for the PS3 so we could play together! Just typical girly gifts, right? :)

And how do you spend your time outside the studio? Any hobbies?

  • I am not originally from Brno, so sometimes, during the weekends, I travel to see my family either in Ostrava, where I grew up or in the nearby Vsetín, where I was born. I love visiting foreign countries and meeting their culture whenever I can, but I also love Czech nature, so spending time outside is incredibly relaxing for me! Instead of gaming these days, I dedicate my free time to reading books and self-educating myself. Last but not least, unless I am not feeling lazy, I go jumping on a trampoline, so feel free to join me in Spa Rasinova in the city centre! :D

Thank you for the interview!

  • Thank you too. :) Have a nice day, and now back to work, woohoo!
